The feel and appearance of viscose made out of bamboo is on the level of other luxury and expensive fabrics but for an affordable price. The great function wear characteristics of bamboo viscose compared to fabrics fully made out of synthetic fiber for the same degree of function has led to our decision to use it as a main component in our fabrics besides linen and cotton.
However, it is important to note that bamboo viscose is not fully natural and therefore a semi-synthetic yarn.
How bamboo viscose is made?
Bamboo viscose is actually a type of rayon and therefore a man made semi-synthetic yarn, made through extracting the cellulose from the bamboo wood pulp. This is done by the use of solvents to break down the bamboo and turning the cellulose into a honey like liquid. The liquid is then pressed through an extrusion head into a dilute acid bath. By getting in touch with the acid, the dissolved cellulose regenerates and forms a fibre.
Why we use bamboo viscose?
Although viscose is not fully natural and we are planing to use other yarns for our handloomed shirts in the near future, it has a lot of great characteristics that are worth to consider, mainly the same degree of function as fully synthetic function wear fibres.
